To ensure high-quality development of the digital economy, China will sharpen focus on strategic emerging industries like big data, artificial intelligence and intelligent connected vehicles, besides promoting advanced manufacturing, officials and industry leaders said at the ongoing Global Digital Economy Conference 2023.

Digital infrastructure will be built at an accelerated pace, with a focus on bolstering the digital transformation of industries and pressing ahead with the application of new-generation information technologies in various fields, said Wang Jiangping, vice-minister of industry and information technology.

In the first five months of this year, the revenue of the country"s software industry surpassed 4.3 trillion yuan ($594 billion), up more than 13 percent year-on-year, Wang said, adding the cloud computing and big data service segments saw their combined revenue reach 436.6 billion yuan during the period.

Cong Liang, deputy head of the National Development and Reform Commission, said the digital economy is playing an important role in boosting the country"s economic growth. He called for efforts to propel the interconnectivity of information infrastructure and expand international cooperation in the digital economy domain.

The revenue of China"s digital economy reached 50.2 trillion yuan in 2022, ranking second in the world and equivalent to 41.5 percent of the country"s GDP, according to a report released by the China Academy of Information and Communications Technology.

China will take solid steps to build digital infrastructure and data resource systems and bolster deeper integration of digital technologies with the economy, politics, culture, society and ecology, said a guideline released by the Communist Party of China Central Committee and the State Council, China"s Cabinet, in February. Notable progress will be made in the construction of a digital China by 2025, the plan said.

Xu Ran, CEO of Chinese e-commerce giant JD, said the company has invested more than 100 billion yuan in basic science and technology R&D since 2017, and is committed to enhancing the resilience and safety of supply chains by leveraging digital technologies.

Looking ahead, JD will speed up the transformation and upgrading of traditional industries, promote the in-depth integration of the digital economy with the real economy and make efforts to build a modern industrial system, Xu said.

7月4日，2023全球数字经济大会在京开幕。国家发改委党组成员、副主任丛亮表示，中国数字经济总体规模已经达到50.2万亿元。

工信部党组成员、副部长王江平表示，我国新型基础设施建设优势进一步夯实。我国拥有全球规模最大、技术领先的网络基础设施。数字经济核心产业不断壮大。2023年前5个月，我国软件业务收入超过4.3万亿元，同比增长13.3%。信息技术服务收入达2.84万亿元，其中云计算、大数据服务共实现收入4366亿元。

下一步，工信部将加快推进新型基础设施建设，促进数字基础设施体系规模化发展。聚焦产业数字化转型，大力推进新一代信息通信技术在垂直行业融合应用，加快大数据、人工智能、智能网联汽车等战略性新兴产业创新发展，大力发展先进制造业，促进数字经济做强、做优、做大，培育经济新引擎。

丛亮在开幕式上表示，近年来数字经济、互联网+、大数据等战略深入实施，数字经济在促进经济增长、提质增效方面发挥了重要作用。据测算，中国数字经济总体规模已经达到50.2万亿元。全国网络零售市场规模连续9年居世界首位，软件和信息服务业收入达10.8万亿元。

京东集团CEO许冉表示，京东是一家同时具备实体企业基因和属性、拥有数字技术和能力的新型实体企业，一直都有着很强的技术驱动能力。

“自2017年全面向技术转型，到目前京东体系已经投入了超1000亿元研发费用，不断强化自身的技术能力和产业数字化效能，技术驱动已经写入京东的DNA。”许冉称。

许冉表示，京东始终注重对前沿技术进行探索、开展有秩序的创新，重点围绕供应链场景，正在加快人工智能等数智技术在各产业相关场景的应用落地。

More than 30 large language models are being showcased during the World Artificial Intelligence Conference, an annual event that opened in Shanghai Expo Center today. Chinese internet giants Alibaba Group Holding and Baidu and AI startups such as Sense Time and iFlytek are among the LLM developers to take part in the conference. With the biggest number of exhibitors and the largest ever exhibition area, the WAIC includes a specially allocated area for the booths of major LLM developers where the latest achievements in developing general-purpose LLMs are under the spotlight this year.

Beijing city recently issued a series of implementation opinions on better utilizing data, aiming to achieve a data market size of 200 billion yuan by 2030 and cultivating a hub for data services in an effort to expand digital economy growth, according to media reports on Wednesday. Beijing proposed the establishment of a number of pilot data systems and standards, according to the proposal. It also emphasized the promotion of open development and international cooperation along the entire industrial chain of the digital economy.

北京力争2030年数据要素市场规模达2000亿：日前，北京市人民政府印发《关于更好发挥数据要素作用进一步加快发展数字经济的实施意见》，涉及二十项具体任务。按照《实施意见》确定的总体目标，北京市要推动建立供需高效匹配的多层次数据交易市场，充分挖掘数据资产价值，打造数据要素配置枢纽高地。力争到2030年，北京市数据要素市场规模达到2000亿元，基本完成国家数据基础制度先行先试工作，形成数据服务产业聚集区。

The number of Chinese industrial parks with a gross output value of over 100 billion yuan rose to 54 this year, according to a recent research report. China added six 100-billion-yuan industrial parks this year, said market consultancy services provider CCID Consulting today. Moreover, the number of industrial parks with over 300 high-tech firms and those with imports and exports of more than 50 billion yuan rose by two and nine to 67 and 49, respectively.

China-Europe freight train services saw steady growth in the first half of this year, official data showed Thursday. The number of China-Europe freight train services increased by 16 percent year on year to 8,641 trips during the January-June period, according to the China State Railway Group Co., Ltd. Some 936,000 20-foot equivalent units (TEU) of goods were transported via freight trains, up 30 percent.

China rolled out its first open-source desktop operating system, called openKylin 1.0, on Wednesday, a key move that indicates the country has the ability to build its own self-developed OS and fill the gaps in this field. The openKylin 1.0 was developed by a group of Chinese companies led by China Electronics Corp, the country"s largest State-owned comprehensive electronic information enterprise.

Moderna signed a memorandum of understanding and a land deal with Shanghai’s Minhang district government on Wednesday to mark the US drugmaker’s first investment in China. Moderna will set up its Chinese headquarters in Shanghai to promote the research, development, production, and sales of messenger RNA vaccines and drugs in China, with its current mRNA medicines pipelines to be set up in Minhang District. Sources said the investment will total USD1 billion.

Meituan’s fourth-generation drone, which the Chinese on-demand food delivery behemoth unveiled yesterday, is able to deliver takeaways within a maximum radius of 3 kilometers within 15 minutes and offers a whole new low-altitude logistics solution for cities. The small multi-rotor unmanned aerial vehicle can carry a maximum load of 2.5 kilograms and travel up to 10 kilometers when fully loaded, said the head of Meituan’s drone hardware department.

Chinese tech giant Tencent Holdings will shut down its audio platform Penguin FM in September because of business adjustments. Penguin FM announced yesterday that it will immediately close new user registration and recharge functions and be discontinued on Sept. 6.

腾讯企鹅FM宣布停运：7月5日，腾讯旗下音频平台企鹅FM发布下线公告，称由于业务调整，即日起，企鹅FM将关闭用户注册及充值功能，并在2023年9月6日0时正式停止运营。

Chinese stocks fell on Thursday with the benchmark Shanghai Composite and the Shenzhen Component each slid 0.5 percent. Hong Kong’s Hang Seng index tanked 3 percent to reach a new monthly low, and the TECH index dropped 1.7 percent.
